How To Handle Dental Emergencies

Time is the most important factor. Call us and come in for an appointment within 1-2 hours of your injury to save your tooth. Begin by recovering your tooth. You can rinse it in water, if necessary. Handle it only by the top (crown) and avoid touching the root. If you can, try to replace it in its socket, or put it in a container of cold milk to keep it moist. Do not let your tooth dry out.

It’s important for you to come to our office as soon as you can. It is possible to save a tooth that’s been knocked out if it’s properly splinted soon after loss, so come to Nova Cosmetic Dentistry right away.

There are lots of situations that count as dental emergencies including:

• An infected tooth
If you have a persistent toothache that has lasted longer than a few days, this may be a sign of an infected tooth or a dental abscess. It is important to get care right away to stop the infection from spreading and save your tooth.

Bleeding Gums
If you notice that your gums are spontaneously bleeding or are bleeding even when you brush and floss regularly, this could be a sign of a serious dental health issue like gum disease. Be sure to contact us right away so you can get the help you need!

Broken or chipped molar
Unless it is causing you a great deal of pain, a broken cusp of a molar is not an immediate dental emergency. For these cases, we will schedule you for our next available appointment and help you understand how to best care for your tooth in the meantime.

What To Expect

To properly evaluate the problem, an x-ray of the affected area along with a 15 to 30 minute examination is necessary.

Dr. Waibel will carefully examine your dental situation and give you her honest advice and clearly lay out what needs to be done to have you feeling comfortable again.
