Keep Your Teeth & Gums Healthy

The Importance of Cleanings & Oral Exams

A cleaning and oral exam every six months is the cornerstone of preventive care. By seeing you for regular appointments, Dr. Lana Waibel can track any changes in your oral health, and ensure that you are not at risk of developing common conditions, like tooth decay or gum disease.

Our friendly, gentle hygienists will make sure you feel comfortable throughout your cleaning. We’ll use the latest technology and x-rays to look below the surface, and make sure your mouth is completely healthy. In addition, bi-annual teeth cleanings help remove plaque, tartar and surface stains from your teeth that can’t be removed with regular brushing and flossing alone. At Waibel Dental, we offer preventive dentistry services for patients throughout Lower Gwynedd, Blue Bell, and Ambler to keep smiles healthy, strong, bright, and beautiful.

Strengthen Your Teeth

Fluoride Treatments

Fluoride treatments can be applied after teeth cleanings at Waibel Dental. Dr. Waibel will apply a fluoride-rich gel to your teeth, which will help remineralize and strengthen your enamel, as well as also reduce sensitivity. It can even reverse the effects of minor tooth decay and ensure that your smile remains strong and healthy. Fluoride treatments are often recommended for kids, but are appropriate for patients of all ages.

Prevent Cavities From Forming

Dental Sealants

Dental sealants are the best way to prevent tooth decay in the cavity-prone molars. Dr. Waibel will apply a clear liquid resin to your teeth, and then harden it with a UV light. This creates a transparent barrier that protects the surface of your teeth from contact with damaging oral bacteria and acid, preventing the formation of cavities.

Prevent Gum Disease

With Proper Periodontal Care

Genetics plays a huge role in gum disease. Some patients can be genetically more prone to it while others are not. Although you can’t control your genes, you can make choices that will improve your oral health and lessen your risk for the disease. Proper brushing and flossing habits, eliminating tobacco use, sticking to a low-sugar diet, and controlling or preventing diabetes can put you in a better position to avoid gum disease.

Some common signs of periodontal disease include:
- Bleeding when brushing and flossing
- Persistent bad breath
- Red, puffy, inflamed gums
- Triangle-shaped gaps between your teeth

After periodontal disease is diagnosed, we recommend splitting the non-surgical periodontal therapy into two appointments. We will use local anesthesia (lidocaine) to numb the area so the procedure is absolutely painless from start to finish. After the deep cleaning is complete, our expert hygiene team will provide you with thorough home care instructions to keep you gums healthy. We will continue to monitor your periodontal status closely to make sure you are on the path to total health.

Get Peace Of Mind

Oral Cancer Screenings

As part of every comprehensive oral exam at Waibel Dental, we provide oral cancer screenings. Dr. Waibel will take a look at your mouth and look for bumps, lesions, and other irregularities that may indicate the presence of cancer. Regular screenings give you peace of mind, and ensure that you can get the help you need in the rare event that we notice an issue.

Have Questions? We Have Answers.

Is teeth whitening treatment safe?

Yes! We only use the highest quality, FDA-approved 40% hydrogen peroxide whitening gel. It is safe for your enamel when applied by our dental professionals.

How many sessions does it take to see results?

One session is usually enough to see a 2+ shade difference. More stubborn grays/darker initial shades may need an additional session. First-time whiteners often benefit from a follow-up "chaser" session.

How often should I get my teeth whitened?

At Nova Whitening Club, we only use the highest-grade whitening gel that causes no harm or stripping to your enamel. You can safely whiten as often as you want until you reach your desired shade. Our patients normally whiten their teeth every 6-12 months.

How can I minimize sensitivity?

There is no one-size-fits-all answer, but generally most of our patients report no to very minor sensitivity. If you normally have sensitive teeth, we recommend taking Ibuprofen one hour before your whitening session. We also advise brushing with Sensodyne or any sensitivity toothpaste for 10 days before your appointment. If you're due for a dental cleaning, avoid combining it with whitening on the same day as that may increase sensitivity chances.

During your treatment, we will isolate any areas of recession or exposed dentin with a liquid barrier before whitening to protect those spots. If you do experience any sensitivity after whitening, it may feel like random zingers, but this should not last longer than 24 hours. Feel free to get in touch with our team if you have any other concerns – we're happy to help.

Are there any limitations?

Existing crowns, veneers, or bonding will not whiten – only your natural enamel will brighten. That’s why we may recommend getting your teeth whitened if you are getting additional cosmetic treatment so we can match your desired shade.
